After weighing all the pros and cons of different format options, we have chosen to use Adobe Acrobat "Portable Document File" (PDF) for our newsletters.  We chose this for several reasons, two of which are #1) the Adobe Acrobat Reader software is free and #2) it is a well-known company (Adobe) and file type (PDF), which means that it probably won't become obsolete anytime soon. It is also preferred by many printing companies.
